Businesses choose Greenscape for commercial solar for the same reason households do: we have been here for 14 years, we are still here, and we operate as long-term partners rather than one-job suppliers. A commercial solar system is a 25-year asset. The decision is not just about today's price. It is about who is going to commission the system, monitor its performance, handle the DNO paperwork, support the manufacturer warranties, and still be on the other end of the phone in 2040.
Greenscape started in 2012 as a residential solar installer. Commercial work began informally a few years later, through customer referrals to small business owners and friend-of-a-friend introductions to local farmers. Each early project was hand-engineered. There was no separate commercial division; there were just larger residential customers who happened to be farms, workshops or factories.
What changed across the late 2010s and early 2020s was both the scale of commercial demand and the realisation that commercial work needs a different operating model. Residential customers make decisions over coffee at the kitchen table. Commercial customers need half-hourly meter data analysed against capacity charges. They need G99 grid connection applications instead of the simpler G98. They need structural roof analysis for steel-frame profile, single-ply membrane, standing-seam metal, concrete substrates. They need capital allowance modelling, multi-stakeholder coordination across operations, finance and sustainability, and for larger projects they need ground-mount engineering, planning permission and ecological surveys.
We built dedicated commercial capability around each of those areas. Pat Rickards leads the commercial customer relationship and is the first point of contact for most businesses approaching us. Sky Da Silva and Jacob Read run technical surveys and project coordination. The wider Greenscape engineering team handles design, the install crew is the same employed staff who deliver our residential work, and the project management discipline is what scales the model up.
Today the commercial division delivers UK-wide, from 30-kW workshops to multi-MW ground-mounted solar projects in England, Scotland and Wales.
The relationships that have shaped how we work
Our CLA partnership, and Gold status on the Suffolk Carbon Charter, sit behind a meaningful share of how we operate commercially.
The Country Land and Business Association is one of the most respected business networks in rural Britain. We are a trusted CLA partner because our commercial team developed genuine agricultural specialism over many years: rooftop solar on barns, dairy parlours, grain stores and machinery sheds; ground-mounted multi-MW solar on underutilised farmland with grazing-compatible design; battery storage integrated with parlour and refrigeration load profiles; supermarket Scope 3 reporting alignment for farms supplying major retailers. A CLA partnership is not given out lightly and it represents a meaningful signal of trust to UK farmers considering solar.
We hold Suffolk Carbon Charter Gold Level 2026, awarded for monitoring and reducing our own carbon emissions and for best practice in championing the environmental agenda. We hold ourselves to the same emissions standards we help our customers achieve.
What we deliver, by sector
The commercial division covers the breadth of UK business solar. The sector pages on the main site go into the specifics for each. Below is the headline of what we do and where.
01Agriculture and farms
Our largest single sector. Multi-MW ground-mounted projects, large rooftop arrays on barns and machinery sheds, full integration with farm load profiles. Most of our agricultural customers come via CLA introductions or word of mouth from other farmers we have already worked with.
02Warehousing, logistics and distribution
A fast-growing sector. Large single-span rooftop systems, EV and fleet charging integration, capacity charge reduction, PPA structures particularly common because the long-lease tenant model fits PPA cleanly.
03Manufacturing and industrial
The sector with the highest typical self-consumption (80 to 95%), which makes the solar economics genuinely outstanding. Capital allowance maximisation, peak demand charge reduction on industrial supply contracts, Scope 2 emissions reporting for OEM supply chain compliance.
04Retail, leisure and hospitality
Customers tend to have refrigeration-dominant load profiles and long trading hours that overlap well with solar generation. Many also value the customer-visible sustainability branding.
05Offices and professional services
Increasingly driven by MEES (Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards) compliance as the regulations tighten towards EPC C by 2027-2030.
06Schools, academies and public sector
Schools, academies and public sector projects route through PSDS (Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme) funding, Salix interest-free loans, and multi-academy trust procurement frameworks.
07Village halls and community buildings
Smaller systems with charity VAT treatment, often combining solar with battery for resilience hub functionality.
08Landlords and leased premises
Tri-party agreements brokered between tenant, landlord and PPA funder, with MEES compliance driving most of the conversations.

A commercial solar system can be paid for in four broad ways, and a real part of what we do is helping businesses pick the right one for their balance sheet.
Outright purchase (CapEx)
Outright purchase (CapEx) suits businesses with capital available, who want the strongest lifetime return and want the asset on their own balance sheet from day one. Typical payback 4 to 6 years, IRR 16 to 22%, capital allowances available at the 25% main corporation tax rate, system economic life 25+ years.
Asset finance
Asset finance suits businesses preferring cash-flow positive monthly structures. The energy saving is greater than the monthly finance cost from month one, so the install is cash-flow neutral or better immediately. Five to seven year terms typical.
Lease
Lease is for businesses wanting a fixed monthly cost without the asset on the balance sheet. Less common than asset finance now but still appropriate for some structures.
Free Commercial Solar (PPA)
Free Commercial Solar (PPA) is the option that has become most important since 2022. The host pays nothing upfront. A funding partner pays for the install and owns the system. The host buys the electricity generated at a fixed rate roughly 50% below grid rates, for typically 10 to 25 years. The host's electricity bill drops from day one, with no capital outlay and no balance-sheet impact.
The PPA option has unlocked solar for businesses that previously could not get capital approved internally. We arrange PPA financing through specialist UK funding partners and the underwriting process is something we project-manage end-to-end.
Great technical support from a most personable Callum.

Had my Air Con installed today.. Could not fault the two installers who attended. . Arrived nice and early, took a look around outside and indoors no hesitation in starting work and confirming where I wanted the appliance. Shoes off each time they entered house and completed the tidy up after themselves. Remote and operation of A/C explained to me.. Good work, keep it up.

I've just had solar panels, battery and EV charger installed by Mark and Luke. They arrived a little early, did the job as quietly as possible with no fuss, and have finished much earlier than I'd expected. Mark then explained what's what, which I think I'll remember. Couldn't expect more.
Scaffolding subcontractor was similarly efficient putting the scaffolding up.
The back office and survey staff have been friendly and efficient too. It has been good to be able to visit the showroom office in Ipswich.

Michaela, dealt with my finance query in a professional, efficient manner, and placated my fears that the progress on my solar system would be paused until the return of the surveyor from holiday. Good customer care. Thank you

I have been very impressed with the service I received from Greenscape. The initial survey was very professionally done by Andrew and I was pleased that he convinced me not to have more panels than necessary. The team that installed the battery and inverter were excellent and very pleasant to deal with. The system is up and running and there have been no complications. I thoroughly recommend Greenscape.

I arranged to have solar panels and a battery installed by Greenscape via OVO Energy. From start to finish, the service has been excellent. From the survey, to the panel installation and battery installation, every team member has been professional and very friendly. The after sales have kept in contact to make sure everything has gone smoothly. Couldn't fault Greenscape.
“We were not looking for a green badge. We were looking for a hedge against another bad energy year. Greenscape modelled it against our actual data, not a generic spreadsheet, and the figures held up the moment we turned it on.”
250 kW asset finance install.
£31,200 annual saving
~4.6-year payback
cash-flow neutral from month one

Where this goes next
Grid electricity prices have settled at roughly double pre-2021 levels and are not coming back down meaningfully. The commercial solar case in 2026 is overwhelming: payback inside 5 to 7 years on CapEx, day-one savings on PPA, and a 25-year asset that earns through every grid price cycle for the rest of its life.
The areas we are scaling fastest are PPA delivery (because more businesses want zero-capex installs), battery storage for peak shaving (because capacity-based charges and DUoS red-band windows have become material costs for larger consumers), and ground-mounted solar for agricultural and rural commercial customers where roof area is the constraint rather than land area. None of these are speculative directions. They are the conversations our existing customers and our pipeline are already having with us.
